EXHIBITIONS

CCMHT was created in the aftermath of an exhibit at Provincetown Art Association and Museum in 2006. A Chain of Events, Modernist Architecture on the Outer Cape, Marcel Breuer to Charles Jencks, curated by Peter McMahon and Robert Bailey, exposed the tip of the much larger iceberg: the Cape’s remote woods as a refuge for many important mid 20th century designers and architects. The research that led to the show resulted in Peter McMahon forming the Trust. Subsequent exhibits include:

was an open-call juried inviting designs for design of affordable Accessory Dwelling Units permissible under Wellfleet zoning laws. We received over 120 submissions and the finalists’ work was exhibited at an opening at Seamen's Bank in Wellfleet and at a forum at the Wellfleet library during which finalists and jurists discussed the proposals with a capacity crowd. The exhibit then travelled to the Boston Society of Architects building in Boston.

The Children’s Room

2016 explored over 200 children’s books produced by the Wellfleet mid-20th century modernist community. This included works by Ivan Chermayeff, Paul Rand, and Ati Gropius Johansen. Collaborating with the Wellfleet Historical Museum and the Wellfleet Library we acquired books and original artwork by their illustrators, including a mural by Caldecott Award winner Juliet Kepes which had formerly hung at the Museum of Modern Art in the 2012 exhibition Century of the Child. As a result the Wellfleet Library has copies of almost all the 200 books which can now be checked out by patrons.
