The Cape Cod Modern House Trust invites you to visit the restored Kugel/Gips house, created in 1970 by local modern designer Charlie Zehnder. In 2010, after the house was leased to the Trust by the National Park Service, it was fully restored and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The house, which sits above a pristine pond in the National Seashore, reveals Zehnder’s interest in Frank Lloyd Wright, an his own idiosyncratic use of materials and bold experiments in form making.
The restoration was a collaboration between the Trust, the Cape Cod National Seashore, and the voters of Wellfleet who supported the project through the Community Preservation Act funding.
The house also hosts the Trusts Artist/Scholar residencies every Spring and Fall.
This year’s residency is an Art/Science Collaboration residency in which artists will be paired with Park staff scientists doing field research.
