John M. Johansen

In Memoriam

We are sad to report the passing of John Johansen. John had been a long time summer resident, and recently, a year-around resident of Wellfleet with his wife Ati Gropius Johansen.

Michael Sorkin said of him "Johansen has always been an architect committed to ideas: scientific, architectural, and cultural. His work is filled with a sense of response to agendas that are always broader than the narrow limits of his immediate problems at hand."

He continued writing, composing, enjoying his many close friends, and working on new concepts of what architecture could be right to the end.
